SOLSTAFIR

(Iceland)

Mėnuo Juodaragis XXIII will host one of the most famous and intriguing contemporary post-metal bands from the land of ice and fire, the island of hot geysers and volcanoes. Sólstafir is a vibrant Icelandic
collective whose atmospheric sound perfectly captures the Icelandic musical phenomenon. The music of the band crossed the limits of the heavy metal scene over a decade ago and has spread across an unpredictable vastness of styles. Sólstafir’s uniquely composed works vividly blend with Iceland’s rugged natural beauty, and its marvellously epic sound with a very distinctive language. The songs are mostly performed in Icelandic, with vocalist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason’s voice so soulful that the meaning and the power of the words are experienced by the listeners without even understanding the language.

Sólstafir have started as black metal band in 1995, the same year as Mėnuo Juodaragis was born. Surprisingly enough, this will be the first Icelandic group in the history of MJR. And perhaps the anticipation is well worth it, because for the fiery spirit of Juodaragis this event seems utterly magical!
